cataracts. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in
concentrations 1,000 times greater in the macula section of the retina than in

identified in the lens of the eyes. Studies have found that the highest
concentration of zeaxanthin is in the center of the macula, whereas the lutein
is on the edges, and here they absorb the very high energy and most damaging
portions of the light spectrum (ultraviolet blue), which is a critical function
for eye health.
